CDL Opening Weekend kicked this last week and gave it’s fans all sorts of action. Even though it is early in the season, initial impressions on our projected top 5 teams were good:
Atlanta FaZe and LA Thieves highlighted the weekend, both going undefeated. Dallas Empire and Chicago Optic had strong showings as well but showed less consistency than the top dogs.
Seattle Surge finished the weekend 1-1 as well, but their loss was an ugly one. It was a Dallas and Seattle matchup to start the weekends and Seattle drowned themselves out.
For example, their Hardpoint match finished with a score of 250-98 in favor of Dallas. Go back to our post that covers our top 5 teams here: CDL Top 5
Our matchup of the weekend was from Saturday’s slate of matches, between LA Thieves and NY Subliners. With NY finishing last year in the top 5 teams, we expected them to show their metal against the new team this year.
LA Thieves came in and cleaned up the Subliners, winning every game in the matchup handily. All in all it was a successful CDL Opening Weekend and start to the 2021 season. For an in depth review of the weekend, click this link to read an article from Esports.com: Esports CDL
